RETAIL: SHOPPING WITH JOY

The retail industry is the third largest economic sector in Germany. What strengthens the retail sector in Bremerhaven is not the large department stores and specialist retailers, but the many small and medium-sized enterprises. They ensure supply in the individual districts and contribute to the quality of (public) life.

With a current population of round about 116,000, Bremerhaven is the largest city on the German North Sea coast and has seen a steady increase in population since 2012. In addition, more than 29,000 people commute to work from the region to Bremerhaven every year. The seaside city as the region's employment center is therefore of great importance as it ensures the attractiveness of the retail industry and its services.

Integrated city center concept

Bremerhaven is pressing ahead with the redevelopment of the city center. With an ambitious program of immediate measures and a strategic city center concept, Bremerhaven’s center is to be strengthened and prepared for the future. An online survey and a future camp enabled the population to participate. Now it is time for implementation! The process is being supported by various stakeholders, including municipal departments, companies and organizations, in order to successfully implement the development of Bremerhaven's city centre.

Retail space management

The retail sector in Bremerhaven plays an important role in urban life and the attractiveness of the city. One aim is to strengthen and further develop the retail industry by focusing on supporting and managing the acquisition and establishment of new retail, service and catering businesses. Vacant retail spaces are to be reactivated in order to revive and improve the shopping experience as well as the offer for residents and visitors.

In the wunderwerft network, Bremerhaven’s cooperation partners work together to improve the networking of work and trade on the Hafenstrasse as part of the traditional district Lehe. The wunderwerft has found a temporary home in the "Delphin-Apotheke and" wants to create incentives for businesses to settle on the Hafenstrasse, while providing comprehensive advice.

The marketing initiative of Bremerhaven's districts is an association of the advertising communities of all districts and the city's relevant advertising organizations. It focuses on promoting cooperation between companies, retailers, creative artists and other stakeholders in order to ensure support for the city's tourism profile and image.

As an employer and professional organization, DEHOGA represents the interests of the hotel and catering industry in Bremen and Bremerhaven, particularly in relation to politics and state institutions.
